PROGRAM
Synopsis
Prologue
In the late winter months of 1801, a rich individual named Lockwood, has rented a manor called "Thrushcross Grange" in the isolated moor country of England. Soon after arrival, Lockwood ventures off in a terrible snowstorm to to visit his landlord, Mr Heathcliff, who lives in the near by manor called "Wuthering Heights". He finds the inhabitants of Wuthering Heights to be a strange group: a disinterested and nervous housekeeper, the mistress of the house who is an attractive but reserved, even rude woman; a young man who appears to be one of the family but dresses and talks like a servant, and Mr Heathcliff who appears a gentleman but his manners and speech suggest otherwise.
Being snowed in, he has to stay the night and is shown to an unused chamber where he finds a journal from the former inhabitant of the manor named "Catherine." After falling asleep, he is soon awakened by a loud bang on the window. Frightened, he runs to tell Mr, Heathcliff, but is shoved violently out of the room. The housekeeper Nelly Dean escorts Lockwood back to Thruscross Grange, and tells him the story of the family from the Heights.
Act 1
The story begins with the Earnshaw family who lived at Wuthering Heights. The family consisted of their father Mr. Earnshaw, his son Hindley, and his daughter Catherine. One day, Mr Earnshaw travels to Liverpool where he adopts a homeless boy, and names him "Heathcliff". Hindley, who finds himself excluded from his father's affections because of the new stranger quickly learns to hate him, yet Catherine grows very attached to him. Because of Hindley's discord, he is sent to college, while Heathcliff and Catherine become inseparable. When Mr Earnshaw dies, Hindley returns with a new wife, Frances, and becomes master of Wuthering Heights. He forces Heathcliff to become a servant instead of a member of the family.
Heathcliff and Catherine continue to run wild through the moors and one night they make their way to "Thrushcross Grange" to spy on the inhabitants Edgar and Isabella Linton. They are soon spotted and try to escape but Catherine trips and falls, spraining her ankle. Heathcliff is forced to leave her there and the Linton's take her in.
Five weeks later, Catherine returns with the Linton's to Wuthering Heights looking and acting as a lady. She scoffs at Heathcliff's dirty appearance and, Edgar Linton laughs at him. Heathcliff retaliates and is beaten and locked in the attic by Hindley. After the party with the Linton's, Catherine climbs over the roof to comfort him. He vows to get his revenge on Hindley.
In the summer of the next year, Frances gives birth to a child, Hareton, but she dies shortly after. This leads Hindley to descend into a life of alcoholism.

Act 2
As time passes Catherine has become close to Edgar, growing more distant from Heathcliff. One day Edgar comes to visit Catherine and proposes marriage. Before she can give her answer she realizes Heathcliff has seen and has run away. She attempts to run after him but it is too late. Nelly attempts to comfort her, but Catherine slaps her. Shocked, Edgar tries to leave but Catherine begs him to stay. He proposes again and she accepts.
Three years after Heathcliff's disappearance, Edgar and Catherine are married.
Six months after the marriage, Heathcliff returns as a gentleman, having grown stronger and richer during his absence. He has now become the master of Wuthering Heights after aiding a drunken Hindley to gamble his fortune away, and takes away his son Hareton's education and treats him like a servant. Upon his return, Catherine is delighted to see him and Isabella, falls madly in love with the new established Heathcliff. He despises her but encourages the infatuation, seeing it as a chance for revenge on Edgar. When he embraces Isabella, an argument ensues between Catherine and Isabella. Hearing the commotion Edgar intervenes and insists Heathcliff leave.
The two men brawl, which causes Catherine to lock herself in her room and fall ill.
While Catherine is ill, Heathcliff elopes with Isabella, causing Edgar to disown his sister. The two marry and return two months later to Wuthering Heights where he treats Isabella horribly and subjects her to a life of lonely neglect. She runs away pregnant with Heathcliff's son. Heathcliff hears that Catherine is ill and forces Ellen to let him in the Grange while Edgar is at church. Hours after they reconnect, Catherine gives birth to a daughter, Cathy, and dies.
Hindley dies six months after his sister.

Act 3
Several years later, Cathy has grown into a beautiful, high-spirited lady who has rarely passed outside the borders of the Grange. Edgar hears that Isabella is dying and leaves to pick up her son Linton with instructions from Isabella to adopt him.
Edgar returns with Linton who is now a weak and sickly boy. Cathy finds herself attracted to him and is excited to have a new companion in her life. Heathcliff hears of his son's arrival and forces Edgar to let him take him. Cathy learns of her other cousin Hareton, and insists on going to Wuthering Heights. Edgar forbids this, so both her and Linton form a love affair through writing letters. In August of the next year, Edgar has fallen very ill, and Cathy's letters are discovered. She runs away to the moors and runs into Heathcliff and Hareton. Heathcliff encourages her to come back with him to Wuthering Heights to see Linton despite Nelly's discern.
Upon arrival, Nelly and Cathy learn they have been tricked and are held hostage until Cathy agrees to marry Linton as part of Heathcliff's revenge plan against Edgar. Cathy agrees so she can see her father before he dies.
With Heathcliff now the master of both Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, Cathy has no choice but to leave the Grange and go and live at Wuthering Heights. Linton dies soon afterwards and Cathy becomes miserable and angry. This is the point of the story at which Lockwood arrives.
Lockwood leaves back to London, and Heathcliff becomes even more mad from Catherine's ghost haunting him. Despite Hareton's attempts for a friendship, Cathy continues to treat him horribly. Soon realizing his nobility and kindness beneath his lack of education, she begins to teach him to read and write and the two fall in love. Heathcliff, who realizes a strong similarity in Hareton and Cathy to both him and Catherine, he no longer feels the need for revenge. He dies and is reunited with Catherine in death.
